Where are you now? #WednesdayVerses

Hand in hand we walked,
Even when we’d just begun walking,
Together we’d been everyday,
Until fate began knocking.
Together we danced with joy,
When we’d done something new,
The little things in life we did enjoy,
Our troubles then were so few.
We cried together when things weren’t right,
While wiping away each other’s tears.
Or with a hug so tight,
We’d promise each other to fight our fears.
Growing up together,
There were no secrets between us,
We were always there, one for the other,
Things then were thus.
I don’t know what brought it along,
For one day things were alright,
And then on the next with faces long,
Nothing seemed to be going right.
Those differences weren’t our own,
Yet, we had to suffer pain.
You went away before I’d known,
I cried alone, my tears all in vain.
We were friends before we knew,
What friendship meant.
Those years spent with you were few,
I still wonder where you went.
Do you miss me like I do?
Would we be friends, if we’d meet again?
I’ve no friends like you,
And I need you through joys and pain.
And so I ask,
Where are you now?

Ah nostalgia! Some friends come with an expiry date and that is the saddest part. You cannot do anything but let them go.
Loved the way you have captured this predicament here.
Oh yes, there are many that come with an expiry date. Thank you Soumya for reading.
Beautifully captured.
Thank you Damyanti.
This is so touching. The feel and longing for a friendship from yeateryears will always be special. Beautiful verses.
Thank you. And yes, some friendships will always remain special.
Brought back memories of my own childhood friendship which went exactly the same way as your poem .
Except that in the end , we found each other albeit after many years and are now back to being friends again . She is my oldest friend in fact
That is so wonderful. True friendships last the test of time.
What a lovely one, Reema. Nostalgia of some lost friendships.
Thank you Parul.
So beautiful! Childhood friendships are the best, and they do leave us heartbroken when people go their separate ways.
Thank you Shilpa. And yes, childhood friendships are indeed the best.
I loved these lines:
We were friends before we knew,
What friendship meant.
This is so true of childhood friendships – before we started to analyse and have expectations. Very touching, Reema!
