If there is something,

That I cannot have enough of,

It is books for sure!

For I buy books when I’m happy,

Also when I am sad,

And then some more!

I buy books now and then,

For there’s no reason required!

I cannot ignore the call of the bookstores,

That beckon me with their open doors,

Calling me to pick,

Some of the treasures they hold.

The pile of the books that remain unread,

Grows with every passing day.

I vow to buy no more books,

Until I’ve finished reading the ones I have.

But trust me, things don’t work that way,

No matter how hard you try.

There’s always a reason,

That demands for a new book to be bought.

I pile my books one over the other,

Caress them gently with a promise,

That I’ll read them soon!

Why is this world so unfair?

There are so many books,

But so little time!

If there was a heaven,

That I’d like to be in,

It sure would be the one,

Filled with books.

Tsundoku : the act of leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piling it up together with other such unread books

Language : Japanese

I’m participating in the A to Z Challenge and the National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) . I’m trying to weave poems around unusual words or words from other languages that are just beautiful.

Happy World Book Day dear fellow Bookworms! When I realized that the letter “T” was the letter for the day, there was no other word that I’d write but “Tsundoku”! Aren’t we all guilty of having those never ending pile of books that are unread?
