I belong #NaPoWriMo
I feel lost,
As I wander through life.
Navigating through,
The memories of the past,
And confused by the dreams of tomorrow.
Where am I going?
I wonder where I belong!
Is it the home where I grew up,
Surrounded by the warmth of love,
Which held me through,
The bad times in life,
With little things that brought joy?
Or is that world of my books,
Where in times good or bad,
I found my solace?
The world of my imagination,
Has been a wonderful host,
When I wish to escape,
The things that are happening for real.
Or do I belong to the one,
Who loves me more each day?
The one who is with me,
Through thick and thin,
Come what may.
Or do I belong to the world,
Where my wandering soul,
Finds joy discovering new places,
Embracing the freedom,
Of not belonging to any place in particular?
Can I belong to all these things at once?
Yet to nothing at all?
For I belong to myself,
To my memories and my dreams,
And to my present.
I’m participating the National Poetry Writing Month (#NaPoWriMo)
Belongingness is so subjective. The place you feel you belong to suddenly can become a place you cannot stand anymore or it could be the other way round. Suddenly a new place becomes home to you in a moment. Life is full of contradictions, isn’t it? I loved these lines the most: Can I belong to all these things at once? Yet to nothing at all?
Sometimes we feel rootless no matter where we live. And sometimes it’s easy to belong wherever we go.
Beautiful. I recently heard a talk where Howard Ross talks of belongingness and how that’s a need.
You belong wherever you feel comfortable, and that is ever-changing in life. Is it not? Thought-provoking poem and beautifully written! We are multi-faceted beings. 🙂
