#AtoZChallenge : Zephyr
The heat of the summer was taking its toll on me as I sat in a corner of the room sweating profusely while sifting through boxes full of things. It had been a while since I had looked at all these things – some I’d even forgotten that I had. These were the things that I’d accumulated over the years – things I’d needed then and were no longer useful to me now. There were also things that I thought I’d needed but I now realized that I hadn’t needed them at all! All through life we think we need something and try to get it, but when we finally have it we realize that we didn’t need it at all. And then there are things that we think we always have and take for granted, but only in their absence we realize the true worth.
As I sat rummaging through piles of stuff, I found books that I had read as a child, some old newspaper cutouts with drawings and poems of mine published, a few pictures and I was taken back in time. Life in those days was so different from the busy one that I was leading now. It wasn’t a lazy one for there was always something to do, but what made it different was that I had time for the things that I enjoyed doing. I found a diary that I’d written a few years ago. I wasn’t regular when it came to writing the diary, but when I wrote I poured my heart out. In it were written many happy memories with friends during my school and college days. Memories came rushing into my mind and I realized it had been long since I’d spoken to them like we used to back then.
Attempts at conversations were made. But often those conversations ended with awkward silence without knowing what to say next after the few initial questions were asked and answered. I missed those days when conversations continued without having to think about what to talk next. How I longed for those days! But I knew very well that I couldn’t go back. The times had now changed and with it may be the course of friendship had also changed.
All I was left with were memories. For memories were like the zephyr that was now blowing, calm and gentle. They were welcome as long as there were no disruptions and chaos just like the Zephyr. They just reminded me of happier times! Memories were all that I could look back and smile about.

I’m participating in the A to Z Challenge again this year. This is my third time participating in the challenge. I’m going with the theme of “Rare, unusual and beautiful words from various languages”
And with this little piece partly written inspired by real life and partly a figment of my imagination, I complete this series of rare words and weaving stories about them. With this post I complete the A to Z Challenge for the third time in a row. Yay! A Hat-rick!!!
Haven’t read your posts from the beginning, but loved your theme, Reema! Pity we couldn’t connect before. Would love to visit your earlier posts as and when I can.
True we keep on collecting things that perhaps we don’t require. I am busying myself once in a while to sort, select and reject those paper cuttings i have had since forever.
Congratulations on completing the challenge! a hattrick wow!!
A zephyr can help us let go off somethings that burden us.
