Month in rewind : January 2017
January is over? Already? I was thinking that 2016 was a year that went by really fast and now it looks like 2017 is proving me wrong.
January is one of my favourite months. Reasons? It is the first month of the year, thus marking a new beginning. January started off in a pleasant way for me in Mangalore with my family. I am not a person who is keen on making New Year’s resolutions because I like making resolutions when I wish to. It doesn’t really have to be New Year’s day to make a resolution. I believe that there is no better day than today to start off something. Yet, I did make one resolution- the resolution to read everyday. I have resolved to read at least a page everyday no matter how busy I am. I must tell you that it is helping me. My Good Reads reading challenge for this year is 36 books or say 3 per month. I’m on track thanks to my daily reading. I have completed my quota of 3 books for January.
January was fun because I met some of my friends whom I haven’t met in while. Meeting friends who have been your friends for almost 20 years is a big deal. Yes we are all now in the same city but something or the other came up and we couldn’t meet all these days. But I finally met them and that Sunday was indeed a good one. And yes, January also saw me going home after 3 long months! It is always a wonderful feeling to go home.
Okay, honestly January is my favourite month because it is my birthday month! Yes I am usually excited about my birthday but this year I wasn’t so excited about it. Read this post to know why. But nevertheless when the day finally arrived, I was happy! My loved ones did make it special for me. Yeah, growing older seems sad, but I believe I’m becoming more awesome! Isn’t it? 😉
Another interesting thing that I did in January was visiting the flower show at Lalbagh, Bangalore. This flower show happens twice a year- during Independence Day and Republic Day. This is the 4th time that it is happening after a moved to Bangalore and on all previous occasions I was unable to visit Lalbagh because of various reasons. Hence this time I made up my mind that I would attend the flower show. It was really a wonderful experience. So many different colours, so many different varieties. It was a riot of colours. There was so many varieties that I was mesmerized. It wasn’t just the flowers that made my day that day. There were also various stalls put up during the flower show and I guess what I got almost new books for Rs. 100 each. I got 6 of those. (Because that was all the cash I had.) Also the books I got for my birthday and the delayed Secret Santa gifts means that I have enough to read now at least for a few months.
I barely managed to write in January. I hardly wrote 4 posts on my blog in January. But one important thing happened for my blog. I renamed it. My blog is now “The Write World”. I was planning on changing the blog name for a while now but I was putting it off. But this time I made up my mind that I won’t post unless I make the change. It took the first two weeks of January but I am glad that I did it.
Though I felt that January went by quickly, I am happy that the month was good for me. Yes, I know that I need to write more often but when there are a lot of things that you want to do, it becomes really hard to choose. May be I’ll focus on one thing every month. Yes, that is the plan. Giving the blog a new name and a new look was the plan for January and I am glad that I was successful. Yes, the blog is still a work in progress, but I am happy at least a few things are sorted.
How was January for you? Did it treat you well?
Hope you have a fabulous February!
Not a bad month Reema! Birthday month is always special. I loved the Lalbaug flower show pictures you shared, a real treat I am sure. 4 posts is better than 1….I wrote just one post 🙁 Here’s to better times!!
But your posts are always awesome Kala! I love them
Sounds like a lovely month – birthday months usually are awesome! Love the new name that you’ve chosen for the blog!
Thank you Shinjini
Even I was surprised how fast January flew by. I tried to do some reading too last month. Congratz on the book haul 😀 Isn’t it amazing when you get to buy all the books at such a good rate.
Yes! January went by real fast! I can never stop myself from buying books!
Nice to know that you have had a great month, Reema. I hope you have an even more beautiful February!
Making a note of things we did every month sort of helps us mark the year. I liked the idea of one thing a month. Maybe that will help me with my bucketlist too!
Yes I feel concentrating one thing at a time helps! Hope you have a wonderful February!
You too 🙂
