That old tree

tree cut, old

Do you remember that old tree in the park,
The one with with flowers so lovely,
That reminded us of all things heavenly?
Do you remember that old tree in the park,
Around whose mighty trunk we played,
And danced when its branches swayed?
Do you remember that old tree in the park,
Under whose shade we rested,
And in whose branches those little birds nested?
Do you remember that old tree in the park,
The one with the bench on which we sat,
Talking about this and that?
Do you remember that old tree in the park,
The one we can’t see hereafter,
For a woodcutter’s axe brought an end to its laughter!

  1. Reems this is beautiful – I just could remember a tree that we played around as a child and then we saw it being cut as one summer storm wrecked it.

Sigh. How easy it is to destroy something that has brought so many good memories. Unnecessarily, or necessarily…. hmm.

  3. This is so much more than just a tree. A childhood lost, a page turned, an era ended and a beautiful post is born :).

  4. Wow !Poignant and lovely poem Reema.
