Awaiting your return
It was one of the happiest days,
When I knew that within me you were alive.
Everyone saw that glow on my face,
When I waited patiently for you to arrive.
When you arrived, I loved to hold you tight,
I waited to hear you call me Mom!
Hearing you talk was such a delight,
Like the first time when you held my fingers in your palm.
I didn’t want to let you out of my sight,
But I’d to work and you had to go to school.
I waited eagerly for the night,
When you told me about things you found cool.
I knew that you wanted to be great,
And you worked hard to chase your life’s aim.
On those days when you would come home late,
I stayed awake until you came.
My joy knew no bounds,
When with flying colours you passed.
Though I knew we were treading on shaky grounds,
There was nothing more a proud mother could have asked.
When to far off places you went,
I waited eagerly to hear from you.
There was not single moment spent,
Without praying for you.
Now when you’ve gone to fight,
To protect the nation, your motherland,
This mother’s heart cries all night,
Longing to feed you again with her own hand.
I know the battle will surely be won,
And you’ll be back home!
I’m waiting for your return my son,
For to me you’re always a child, though you’ve grown!
