Dear Zero,
How are you doing? Busy driving people crazy and giving them
nightmares or are you busy brining smiles on people’s faces? I have always
loved Mathematics from the time that I started learning about numbers and you
have been a fascinating concept.

You were not always my hero, but if I think about it now,
may be you are in some ways. A number you definitely are, not natural but
whole. Surprising how I was never introduced to you until I reached the number
10 when I was learning numbers. Then, I used to wonder how you came out of
nowhere and were written after 1 to make it 10. And then I learned how you were
a whole number and an integer and how you were the central number with the
positives and negatives on either side. What fascinated me was that, by
yourself you had no value, but when you were written after a number you added
so much value to it.

As I told you before, as a kid I learned to count beginning
from 1, but come engineering it all changed! I had to learn to count from you!
Be it the decimal system or the hexadecimal or the octal system or even the
binary system- it all began from you! And yes my worksheets from digital design
just consisted of just you and one! That was all the digital circuit could
understand! Though I used to dread zero marks in school and college, I like it
when my screen shows zero errors and zero warnings when I code. I still dread
the zero balance in my account and the zero comments on my blog, but now that I
have written a letter to you may be the other numbers will join in just so that
I write letters to them as well!

You teach us so many things. It doesn’t really matter if you
can’t have a value by yourself in something, all you have to do is help others
who have some value but need your help. It can work wonders- a tenfold, a
hundredfold or may be a thousandfold. You simplify things. And yes order really
matters- what comes before has a different value from what comes after! It is
not just about being somewhere, where you stand in that somewhere really
matters.

I don’t wish a lot from you but if I could ask for a few
things I’d only ask you to accompany some number when arriving as the number of
comments on my posts, please increase you number in my salary and when I am
writing code let there be zero errors, zero warnings. And in life let there be
zero tensions, zero tears and let there be zero violence in the world. That is
all for now.

I’m taking up the #AtoZChallenge and my theme is “A letter for a letter”. So make sure you read
all the letters from A to Z.

It is really lovely to read this great letter to 0 and describing about its importance. I also wish you that this 0 should also attach to your life events that bring lots and lots of happiness to you…Looking forward to more great writings from you.

Bed time prayer?
Nicely penned, as usual.
The last paragraph 😀 Every blogger's midnight prayer 😀
Truly a brilliant post, Reema! And look at those two zeroes accompanying the four next to the number of blog posts line 😉
Congratulations on scoring a two in one award through a 'zero' post! It's been an amazing journey through April reading your amazing letters. The theme caught my eye when I read about it, and you've done absolute justice to it! Bravo girl! :*
What a fabulous post and I loved it when you said 'Numerically yours'. A perfect post to end the challenge on a high!
Reema – Congrats on finishing the challenge. I enjoyed reading you!

The zero did add so much value at the end of the contest. Congratulations for finishing on top with a zero at the end…. Hope more zeros append to your current stats and have all you wanted and more!!!
And you did it! Congrats 🙂
I wrote on zero too, but a different kind.
I really enjoyed this post – it's true we would all like zero errors when coding (or pretty much anything else too) and those extra zeroes on our salaries and blog comments would be good too!
