Book Review: The Other side of Love

This is how the book begins. And I started thinking what this story would be? Will it be the story of an independent girl who did what she wanted to? Was it the story of someone who had to given to what the family had to say about her life? I was curious! So one sunny afternoon, when I was waiting with mom at the doctor’s clinic and the doctor just wouldn’t come, I decided to make use of the time at hand and read this book by Richa Singh.
This book revolves around Radha’s life. Radha is a young lady with a lot of dreams. She is living her life filled with joys and sorrows just like any others. While she was busy living the way she wanted to, her mother wanted her to get married. Being the oldest among the daughters, she was supposed to get married first. But she wasn’t interested in getting married. Her sisters couldn’t wait until she married, found their life partners and settled down. And when Radha turned 27, her mother was eager to get her married. But why wouldn’t Radha get married? Yes, she had loved someone but she was friendzoned. And now when her mother spoke about her marriage, she had just been offered a new job, to be a lecturer at a college. Will she take it up? If yes, how would the new job affect her? Would she get married? And most importantly, will she find love?
Radha’s story beautifully unfolds in this book by Richa Singh. The simple but elegant narration grabs the reader’s attention. Human emotions are always complex to understand, but the simplicity with which the author tries to explain them in order to get the reader feel what the character feels is amazing. Emotions these days are not just about what one feels, but about what others feel as well. This aspect is brought out beautifully in this book. The story moves quickly, thus leaving the reader more interested with what happens next. This book has just the right number of twists and turns and that makes you want to read more of it.
This book is quick read. I finished it in one sitting. Just pick up this book I say, short but so full of the intricacies of human behaviour. An amazing read!
