The Anchor

As she ran the last leg of the relay, memories of the previous year were still fresh in her mind- the boos, the insults and those harsh words that the people had spoken about her. A drop of the baton had ruined all the hard work that she had done all those years. But she had her anchor, her best friend who had stood by her, encouraged and supported her, made her believe in herself and now just before the race could begin she got the news that her friend had died in an accident on her way to the stadium. The thought of quitting did strike her but she decided against it.She took it upon herself to win the race for her friend and as she anchored her team to victory, she looked up and said, “This one is for you!”.
