Through the chaos,

Of the world around me,

There’s a place that,

I’d rather be than here.

It is that place,

Where there’s no space,

For the cold winters of cruelty.

Because it is that place,

Where the warmth of love,

Reigns through every heart.

It is a place,

Where fears and inhibitions,

Do not exist.

For it is the place,

Where no one is judged,

But accepted for being themselves.

Yes, it is that place,

Where I feel comfortable and secure,

Where happiness is all that exists.

As I think of this place,

A magical feeling runs through me,

A mixture of all things good.

I try to search for this place,

And I realize,

The place isn’t far away.

For it is that place,

That we must all create,

A place which everyone,

Can call home.

Geborgenheit : The literal meaning behind it is the ‘feeling of security‘, from the adjective geborgen (secure), but actually there is much more than this, as the word expands to describe the idyllic and magical feeling of security, warmth, comfort, love, peace and trust – yes, ALL of it. That is the blissful feeling you could get when you are cuddled in a fluffy blanket by the fireplace, chatting to your loved ones and knowing that nothing can harm you in this stellar moment. I’m participating in the A to Z Challenge and the National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) . I’m trying to weave poems around unusual words or words from other languages that are just beautiful.

Yes the place called home is where we feel secure. Big or small, home is what everyone yearns for!

  2. Roshan says:

I gotta ask.. where do you find these words? I have not heard of any of them 🙂

  3. Suchita Agarwal says:

Ah home – an elusive feeling much like happiness that ebbs and flows. Lovely poem for a lovely word.

  4. Kala Ravi says:

What a lovely word! The poem is so simple yet so poignant! Life should be only about simple pleasures! Have you heard the song,” All I want is a room somewhere…” from My Fair Lady? The poem reminded me of that song.
