#WednesdayVerses : I’m okay

It was the smile that everyone saw,

The one that made things seem bright.

Some cheer on a gloomy day it brought,

And it all seemed alright.

But hidden behind that beautiful smile,

Were the remains of tears that had dried.

The scars of the wounds not forgotten,

The ones that bothered every night.

The pain was always hidden,

The wounds and the scars were never bared.

For it wasn’t okay to say that things weren’t alright,

Because such things were never supposed to be shared.

Living in a world full of pretense,

“I’m okay” was what you always said.

  1. There are so many people like this, unfortunately. I wonder if we will ever live in a world where people don’t hide their broken selves. Nicely done; I enjoyed the message {similar to mine!} and the rhyme scheme

Ah, I can so relate to this because I used to do just the same – ignore the symptoms and always say I was okay. It’s a beautiful poem, Reema. So heartfelt!
