#AtoZChallenge : Duende
I distinctly remember the day when I first saw you. It was one of those busy days when nothing seemed to go right. Everything was a mess. It was a chaos. Life had decided to pull me down under the weight of it. I’d chosen to bury myself with work for that seemed like an easier burden to carry. But that day even work was a mess ; until you came.
You were the kind of person, one couldn’t help but notice. There was something about you that drew people towards you. Your duende was enough to make things better. Duende – that’s what it was. You had a smile that brightened even the darkest of my days from the time I first saw you. We never spoke for words seemed to be obsolete. I never knew if you’d ever seen me. But you’d become the reason that I’d look forward to living each day.
It was all going fine, until that day when I stopped seeing you around. I tried asking around for you but I didn’t know your name. I waited each day, with my impatience getting better of me with each passing day. Someone told me that I was imagining things. Someone told me that I’d gone mad. Had I? But hadn’t I seen you each day. Your beautiful face was still fresh in my memory. But I needed to see you. I needed to find you.
Where were you? Were you a figment of my imagination like others said? Were you never there?
I switched on my phone which had just arrived after the repairs and I looked at the picture on it. It was you. There was no doubt about it. And then there was me. Had we really met?
I felt pain cover me all over again for realization now drew upon me.
You’d left me before I thought I met you. I’d forgotten that you’d gone. Why did you have to go away? Why didn’t you take me along?
Duende : the ability to attract others thorough personal magnetism and charm

I’m participating in the A to Z Challenge again this year. I’ve done it twice earlier. This time when I decided to take up the challenge, I didn’t have a theme in mind. But as I begin this challenge, I’m going with a theme. It is going to be “Rare, unusual and beautiful words from various languages” . I’m not going to stick to one form of writing – it will be a mix of poetry, fiction and some abstract writing. Hope you’ll like it.

Aah.. thanks.. M writing down all the words you are writing on Reema.. thanka for increasing my vocab.. 🙂
I am glad that you like the words! Thanks for reading 🙂
You are making me feel woefully inadequate about my grasp of the English language. Then again, I will take comfort in the fact that this one’s origin was Spanish :/ 🙂
Learnt a new word. Thanks for the same.
There’s a longer story here. You should expand on this 😀 🙂 The narrative version has started 😀
Now this was one loaded story. Loaded with charisma of love and attraction.
I know of so many people who reek of this duende, but only a few are actually worth it 🙂
Lovely take on the word, Reema.
Interesting spanish word, though I wish I had all the magnetism this word oozes out.
The beginning reminded me of someone. Is this based on a true story, I wonder….
