All the light we cannot see

light cannot see

Day and night. Darkness and light. That is life or so I thought.

And then it is only dark. Darkness- thick darkness and I cannot see. And it engulfs me, holding me tight and not letting me go, pulling me back and making me steps slow. There is no light. I look around to see, but there is nothing but darkness. The world that once seemed beautiful is now bereft of colour. No, it isn’t even black and white. Its black, just black. Absence of light. There is no ray of hope that I can see. I get accustomed to the darkness and life goes by.

A flash of light blinds me.

My eyes hurt. I cannot see. I am so accustomed to the darkness that light seems painful now. I wince in pain but I slowly open my eyes to see the light. I can see. The world looks beautiful, all colourful and bright. I rejoice and I’m thankful for the light. But then something strikes me.

Was I really in darkness or was there light? Light, that I could not see.

As the light surrounds me, a new realization dawns on me.

I could always see. But what I saw was what I chose. I could choose to see the darkness or the light. I had chosen to ignore the light for a while. Even when I was in the darkness, there was light. Light from the silver lining on that dark clouds. Or the light as the fire of love crackled with sparks, surrounding me with warmth. Those lights on the street guiding me on paths that I’d never taken before. A wanderer though I was, I’d reach where I wanted to go. Or those smiles which like fairy lights, though tiny, made it all beautiful!

There was light, but we did not see.
There is light and we cannot see. Or can we?
We may be in darkness, but its sad when we are surrounded by light and not see.

I am taking My Alexa rank to the next level with Blogchatter – #MyFriendAlexa

My Alexa rank as of today is 1241478

After having no clue about what to write for the #MyFriendAlexa campaign, I decided to pick out titles of some of my favourite books and write something based on them. It could be a story, a poem or something abstract like this one. Let me know what do you think about this.

  1. There is a light with in all of us.
    The one we cannot see.

This is the kind of stuff I wanted to write and was aiming to write but couldn’t. And like I have already mentioned, you nailed it. Well written. 🙂

  4. Hi Reema! This is my first comment on your blog. I absolutely loved this post of yours. It is very evocative and loved the conclusion the most – ´We may be in darkness, but its sad when we are surrounded by light and not see.´In a vague way, it also refers to gratitude …counting your blessings. Great start and I wish you all the best for your Alexa campaign. Will be visiting for more reads ..love the theme of your favourite book titles. Intriguing! I invite you take a look at my day´s post at https://thetinaedit.com/. Would love to know your thoughts on the same. Cheers!

  6. Suja says:

Love love love the post. Choosing not to see the light is very unfortunate. Even the most negative people has something good i them. Seeing the positive in everything is a great attitude which makes our life more peaceful. Thanks for sharing such a lovely post.

  7. This is the precise weblog for anybody who needs to seek out out about this topic. You notice so much its almost arduous to argue with you. You positively put a brand new spin on a subject that’s been written about for years. Nice stuff, simply nice!

  8. It is not the physical eyes that we interpret our surrounding world with but with our mind. If the mind is closed even the brightest light can evoke a lot of discomfort and complain leaving apart the darkness. The light is always there, some light, even the light of the silver lining in the darkness.

  9. “There was light, but we did not see.
There is light and we cannot see.”
So many people stay in the darkness because it is warm and comfortable. They like the comfort of misery. They miss so much. I used to feel sorry for them, but they have made a choice and cannot be talked into anything else.
I enjoy the light. I look for new sights to see, new adventures to live.
    Thank you for sharing.

  14. Eyes are of no use when you can not see light in the darkness and with inner vision one can also see darkness in the light. In the world, everything is weaved together. But it’s our choice to see. Loved the post very much. Looking forward to read more on this series.

This is such a beautiful piece of writing. Most of the times when we are in darkness, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and one needs to look for it. It all depends on us what we chose to see. Keep writing Reema. You are a rockstar

  22. Obsessivemom says:

That’s beautifully written and speaks of hope – that there is light around us, we only need to open our eyes to it. So wonderfully said Reema. There’s such depth in your writing.

Mny times it happens that due to circumstances we are able to light. Light that gives ray of hope. Light that ends darkeness; that ends all problems. Nicely written.

  26. This is beautiful writing – a meaning goes deep within, my favorite is this line ”
We may be in darkness, but its sad when we are surrounded by light and not see.” how true, it can suit fit to many things which happen infront of us, but we just turn a blind eye. Lovely.

  27. A lovely post.. it always does come down to a choice… a choice to see the light or the dark! I liked the positive thread.

  28. Natasha says:

Enhanced by the light, the darkness disappeared. There is always light at the end of the dark tunnel and you have potrayed it in a very evocative way. Nice writing here Reema.

  34. Gayatri says:

Loved your post Reema. The metaphorical reference of life and light. The subtletly of change, the courage in taking a new leap with blindfolded eyes. The perspectives we live by.

  35. Reminded me of the saying “The light at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion. The tunnel is.”
We need to choose actively to look beyond the darkness and focus on the light.

I recently read a beautiful thought. It said “I am not this body, not my emotions, neither my mind. I am just a soul and the soul is absolutely ego less.” And i think as soon as the ego goes of, one will only see light. There will be no darkness.

  39. Hena Jose says:

Darkness is something everyone is scared off, but darkness is what we harness many a times from our acts. So well written….In Darkness there is no ray of hope.

  40. Diya@februaryreve says:

    Hey!
    You picked a good one.
‘As the light surrounds me, a new realization dawns on me.’ This is beautiful!

  41. Yes sometimes there is so much of darkness and negativity around us that we tend to miss the ray of hope or positivity…nicely expressed.. 🙂

  42. aseemrastogi2 says:

We can choose to see the darkness (Sadness) or the light (Happiness / Positivity) depending on our choice and state of mind. It’s really easy to be sad for a million things but happiness is something which can show us all the light around even if it’s actually not lighted.

  43. Seema wadhwa says:

    Very well written 🙂
Every cloud does have a silver lining!

  44. Iram says:

    I like it

  45. Charu Gujjal says:

Beautiful lines. Such deep thoughts expressed in such simple words. Loved reading your post.

  46. Yes you can choose to see the light or darkness A lot will depend on your wish and choice .Life has black white and grey .Its better we dont wear tinted glasses.Loved the post

  47. Many a times we fail to see light in our life even when its presence is felt we tend to ignore it. We deliberately choose darkness as it is convenient or may be because we are scared of the change and its effects. If only one tries to embrace it then life changes dramatically, it becomes more bright and colorful.
Interesting way of presenting thoughts on darkness in life. Absolutely loved the way you penned it.
    Thank you for sharing.

  48. There is definitely light within all of us. But we close our eyes when we seek light inside us, instead we look around for light from others. Keep your heart and mind open to see that light that’s ready to pop out just waiting for you to see it. Beautiful post Reema. Loved it. <3

  49. Modern Gypsy says:
