The Yellow Brick Road
Was it my story? I wished it was! It had a lot less pain than my life. No one knew the extent to which I was hurt. Though I was crying each day from within I had to put on a “I’m okay” face and go about doing my job. I wish I had someone to talk to, but I had none. All those memories came back to me again!
“Is this your story? Is it inspired by your life?”
That brought me back to reality! Why was this person so interested whether it was my story or not? But, I had to answer!
“No, it isn’t my story. It just a figment of my imagination. Its something that I created to help myself overcome the drudgery of daily life.” I answered and then looked at him. He looked pretty amused with the answer.
“Who is your inspiration?”
“What made you want to write?”
“Which is your favourite book?”
The questions kept coming and I tried to answer all of them in shortest way possible.
“So what is the secret of your success?”, the same guy asked again!
Ah! I wish I had a secret! And I wish I was successful!
“When I had managed to get into my dream college, I’d thought that it would be my yellow brick road to being an author. But life works in its own ways and I had to quit college the day it began. I then let life take its course, forgot about being an author completely and look here I am today! I don’t know if I am successful or not. I just wrote from my heart and I never knew that I’d be published. That is the only secret of my success that I had and now its no longer a secret” I tried adding some humour into my otherwise boring answer but as always I failed at it miserably!
I was relieved when the anchor said that we were no longer taking any questions.
But he still wouldn’t stop asking.
“Why did you quit college?”, he demanded!

Yellow brick road : A path believed to lead to success or adventure. A reference to the path of the same name in the fictional land of Oz, popularized by the film The Wizard of Oz, based on the works of L. Frank Baum.

I’m participating in the Bar-A-Thon and this post is my 5th post for the same.
This time the theme for the Bar-A-Thon is “Seven”. I chose the seven colours of the rainbow. So each of my posts will be titled according to the colours of the rainbow.

Initially I had thought of writing separate stories for the Barathon. But now it looks like this is going to be a series! 😀

I love the way the story is progressing. But only three more instalments to go. Hurry up.
Nice one Reema, you are connecting the dots well. I am anticpiating a romantic turn at the end 😉
Good take on Wizard of Oz..waiting for the remaining ones
Unusual. Waiting for the rest. 🙂
He is pretty persistent in asking questions. But I wonder why she lied about this being not her story. Well written.
I am liking this series and certainly hope all turns out great in the end 🙂
Hopefully there isn’t the ‘usual’ romantic turn in the end. The scope here is much, much more. The story is progressing nicely. Well written again. Cheers, Varad
The questions or the confrontation. I am still tuned in. It seems like heading to an establishment of romantic angle however I hope it takes a twist. Romance will make it stereotypical and there are enough stereotypes around in this world 🙂
