Bequem #AtoZChallenge #NaPoWriMo

You’re a free, independent woman,

Go chase your dreams,

Says the world.

But if I try,

To do the things that I want to,

I’m often told,

That I’m not right for it.

At times I’m not tall enough,

Or I’m not fair enough,

But how then is life fair?

My hair is too short,

Or at times too long.

I’m either too shy,

Or I’m too bold.

And then I’m not right,

Because I’m not a man,

Or because I’m not a woman enough.

My flaws make me,

Who I am.

Then why can I not be,

Who I am?

Why can I not be comfortable,

In my own skin?

Bequem : Comfortable

I’m participating in the A to Z Challenge and the National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) . I’m trying to weave poems around unusual words or words from other languages that have no substitutes in English.

That’s beautiful. And I absolutely love your theme. You did get the perfect one.

  2. This is a great theme. I admire anyone who can write poetry. I love reading poetry but have always been hopeless at writing it. Visiting from #AtoZ

Just own it, lady! Own it all.

  4. This is so nice, Reema. Wonderful verses. I didn’t know that comfortable came from German 🙂

Wow! Loved these lines. And the whole pic at the end. Very beautiful! It’s along the lines of my yesterday’s post, but so much more succinct.
    Just an FYI…
I don’t usually understand poetry. So I might not always comment! 😛
Confession: I visited you yesterday also! [facepalm]

  6. Ah, saw the meaning here. 😀 (as against comment made in last post)

One’s own skin, One’s own Soul, One’s Own identity. God one. 🙂

  7. Shalini says:

Slay it, Reema! You can do anything in life if you set your mind for it. 🙂

  8. Varsha says:

Beautifully written. This is like a bitter truth, we all have been listening to these excuses since childhood 🙂
I love the way you’ve kept it simple yet expressive.

    Such beautiful poetry!
We all face challenge and self-doubt from time to time! We need to assert ourselves and be comfortable in our own skin. Well written.

Too many people want us to be too many versions. I think that confuses us, and makes us wonder which of these versions is us, even if we know it. Loved the verse and the word.
