10 things I am grateful for

When I was in school, every morning during the assembly we were made to sing a hymn by Jim Reeves called “We thank thee”. Back then as kids, the lyrics had no meaning to us. We sang it because we had to. But after school, there have been a lot of times that I’ve recollected the lyrics and then realized its true essence. Gratitude is indeed something that we all need to practice. Life has its own set of ups and downs, good and bad times. And when things don’t go right, we resort to venting out our anger. It is easy to complain about things aren’t right, but it is difficult to be grateful for the things that we are actually blessed to have. Yes it is difficult to look at the brighter side of life when everything is going wrong. But counting your blessings will make you realize how lucky you are. Here are 10 things that I am grateful for.
1.The gift of life
Life is precious. Each day when I wake up, I am glad that I’m alive. I know the value of life and I’ll always appreciate the gift of life.
2.The gift of people who love me
What makes life worth living is that there are people who love you the way you are. I am lucky that my mom and dad brought me up with so much love, for my little brother who may fight with me at times, but I know who loves me. For the person who loves me for being me, who cares for me, I’m grateful!
3.The gift of good health
We always realize the worth of something when we don’t have it. Yes, I’ve my own set of health problems. But right now I am a lot better than I used to be and I am healthy when compared to the many people in the world who are suffering from so many incurable diseases. I am thankful for my good health.
4.The gift of friends
Friends are the people who add colour to life. Through good times and bad times, we need the company of friends. I’m lucky to have a few close friends who I know will be there for me. Thank you dear friends!
5.The gift of education
I’ll always be grateful for having the opportunity to get a good education. From the time of learning ABCs to now, education has made me who I am.
6.The gift of having a job
I’ve a job that helps me earn my living. There are so many people in the world who struggle to get a proper job. I’m grateful that my efforts during college paid off and I’ve a job.
7.The gift of talents
I write, I sing, I play music, I play sports! These are the gifts that have truly made my life better. And I’m grateful for all the talents that I have.
8.The gift of having a comfortable life
There have been difficult times in life. But I’ve always had three meals a day, a comfortable roof over my head and clothes to wear. I have the luxury of pursuing a few hobbies. I have things that I need and I’m glad about it.
9.The gift of nature
You may be wondering why I put this. But thinking about it, we owe our existence to nature. If the balance in nature is lost, it would be difficult for us to survive. I’m grateful for the nature that shelters us and sustains us.
10.The gift of being free
I write this post and I’ve written many more. I can do things that I wish to do. I go where I want to go. I walk around freely. Yes, I am free. Freedom is a gift for which we must be ever grateful!
When things don’t go right, I remind myself of these gifts that I’m indeed lucky to have. These things may seem little or irrelevant. But if you think about it the impact that they have on my life is huge. And yes, thank you for reading this! Thank you for each one of you who have encouraged me to write!
Today is World Gratitude Day. So what are you grateful for?

Beautiful list of gratefulness. Loved this post, Reema !!!
Thank you Vasantha 🙂
So many of the items on your list are similar to mine and perhaps a lot of other people. It’s a good exercise this, listing things we are grateful for. Helps gain perspective, no?
Yes it does! 🙂
This is a beautiful and heartwarming yet eye opening post to be grateful for so many things we take granted for. Keep writing 🙂
Thank you Ashwini! 🙂
This is a post that if you read on a gloomy day, you will automatically feel better. So many things to be grateful about… This gift of life is precious…
Yes, this definitely is the kind of post I would read if I ever felt gloomy. 🙂
The more we’re grateful for, the more we seem to have in our life. Enjoy the abundance gratitude brings.
That is so true! Gratitude helps us see what we have rather than focusing on what we don’t have.
Good points..we need to be thankful and grateful for what we have !

Thank you!
Indeed we have so many things to be grateful about, every single day 🙂
Yes, the realization itself will give us some peace of mind.
That was so beautifully worded.
Thank you 🙂
We should be grateful for all the things that we perhaps take for granted.. happy feeling thankful.. 🙂
Yes rightly said!
Catching up the race of this fast pace world 🙂 we always forget to thank God for whatever we have & yelled for what we don’t have as grass always appears on other side. Btw much appreciated post .love the way you simplified up all the things 🙂 keep up the good work
Thank you 🙂
Freedom is an excellent gift to be thankful for. I think so many of us take this for granted and it is so very precious. Thank you for sharing Reema.
Yes, at times the things that are of the greatest value to us are the ones that are taken for granted.
Loved it. I used to undermine the power of gratitude but have begun to realise it. The gift of good health is often overlooked. You have made a pretty comprehensive list. I’d add gift of being able to express through writing 🙂 I am planning to write a similar post.
Thank you! Yes, being able to express through writing is one of the best gifts that I’ve.
A perfect list Reema! This list reiterates that life needs only acknowledgement of simple joys to make it more complete and fulfilling!
Yes Kala! That is true.
Just realised I have most of those gifts too and yet I’ve been feeling exceptionally low and dissatisfied. We take so many things for granted.
Yes, we all do!
These are indeed things that we take for granted and never be grateful for! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Yes Shalini, true that!
that’s a pretty nice list of gratitude – gratitude towards life!
Thank you Tina 🙂
Second chances. Third chances. Forgiveness. The ability to say: thank you for that experience, and mean it. Nature. And trees. The after-rain smell, the springtime smell. Mountains and trails and and the fact that I have feet and legs to walk them. How much joy the little things bring (knowing that that joy is always accessible.) Everything I have healed, everything I have learned, and how being happy, being present, creating more, and being abundant in every way, always begins with thankfulness
very nice, we should always feel grateful , not only the ones who helped us but to those who have left us remain in peace by not interfering..Menaka Bharathi has recently published /saving-investing-know-exactly
