#MondayMusings: Holding on or letting go?
I came across a picture on various social media which said “Sometimes holding on does more damage than letting go” and it got me thinking. So often in life we hold on to something and that something may be another person, something that is dear to us or may be our own feelings. These things often become an inseparable part of our lives and often we think that we can’t imagine life without them. Everything works out fine until that day when you feel that things aren’t going the way you thought they would. You feel lost. You feel a deep pain within. Sometimes it is like a balloon- a slight prick can make it burst. Similarly a slight prick in your life can make it all fall apart.
We know that there is pain. We often know that there is no light at the end of the tunnel- that the tunnel is long closed. Yet we wish to dig it up. We know it hurts but we still choose to continue. May be it is okay to dig a little just to ensure that there is no light at the end but the longer you do it when you definitely know that you have reached the dead end, the more it will hurt you. It is good to hold on to things in life but then the choice of what we hold on to is ours. If holding on just gives us more pain, then it better to let go! Yes the pain may be too much to bear initially but as time passes by, the wounds will heal and the pain will subside. Holding on will only make the pain last longer, the wounds deeper.
Hold on to things that make you a better person. Hold on to things that will give you long lasting happiness. Hold on to people whom you know who will be there for you no matter what. But then be careful what you hold on to! If things aren’t working even after trying, then let go. Let go of all the pain that is within. Feel like crying? Just cry and those tears will surely wash away the pain little by little. Is there something that is troubling you? Let it out and share it with someone you trust. Keeping it within you will do no good. The choice is ours to make- to hold on or to let go. So what do you wish to do? What is it that you want to hold on to and what is it that you want to let go?

What I’ve realized is that there is no absolute answer to that. There is no simple answer. And there aren’t any guarantees. So, in my opinion, if you feel conflicted about whether you should hold on or let go, ask yourself this: If you cleared away your fears and self-judgments, what choice would you make?
Yes that is a good insight. Thank you 🙂
