Behind the facade,
Of my usual self,
I carry with me,
The heavy burden of pain.
Things seem alright to the world,
But pain runs through,
Every part of my soul.
I can't let go of the pain,
Because I'm not holding on to it.
They say time heals,
But it doesn't.
The wound appears to have healed,
But the scars remain.
Bleeding all over again,
As memories resurface again.

Cordolium : Heartfelt grief, Sorrow of heart

Language : Latin

I’m participating in the A to Z Challenge and the National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) . I’m trying to weave poems around unusual words or words from other languages that have no substitutes in English.

  1. Heartfelt and something I think everyone has felt at some point in their life in this day and age.

  2. Soumya says:

It is sad that such a beautiful word has such a poignant meaning!

We all go through this phase. Not every wound heals, not every pain dissipates. We just learn to live around it, that’s it.

  3. Rachna says:

I like this word though it means such profound sadness. Some wounds really cut deep.

  4. abhijit says:

The poem sounds so sad. Why so much pain? Can you not be happy? Is there no happiness around?

  5. I love how you’ve strung together these words so beautifully, Reema. They touched my heart.

  6. Namratha says:

Relatable theme for most of us..

  7. Ruchi Nasa says:

I just loved this one. Behind the facade of my usual self, I carry the heavy burden of pain.โ€
