Oooh, I like that – make it a list of rewards! I wonder if "I get to clean house!" would trick my brain into thinking it's FUN? (Human brains are amazingly brilliant AND amazingly stupid, sometimes – it could actually work, I think… maybe. You know, like setting the clock wrong to fool yourself into being on time? It works, until the day you go, "Wait, I know what I did, there," and hit the snooze button four times.)

(By that, I don't mean "positive" in terms of being all sweetness and light and giving affirmations to your self-esteem; I mean that the brain sometimes ignores the "Don't" altogether, and only hears the thing that comes after, as if it hadn't thought of that before, but now it sounds like a mighty fine idea!) Thus, "Consider each request for at least 10 minutes before saying 'yes'" may work better than "don't say yes too fast." (Of course this doesn't fit with the idea of a "not to do list," but it's just a psychological data point worth considering, for the stuff you really do hope to accomplish! 😀 )
